The entrance into Merthyr Tydfil from the south takes you adjacent to the river once more passing Merthyr Leisure Village to the west. There are plenty of large eateries here including Frankie and Benny's, Nandos and Subway.

The trail through Merthyr is lovely on a sunny day (and not too bad in the rain either!). You will travel through mainly built-up areas for the majority of the stretch, at least as far as Swansea Road (A4102) towards the north of the town where you'll join the off-road stretch on the run up to Cefn Coed-y-Cymmer.
